laptopWhat to Expect

Your first assessment will last 45mins. This will allow your physiotherapist enough time to ask you relevent questions regarding your problem and take a thorough medical history. This is what many therapists call a subjective assessment and it is often regarded as the most important part of the assessment as it helps guide the therapist towards appropiate physical examination and diagnosis. At the end of the assessment the physiotherapsist will aim to give you an appropiate diagnosis for your problem along with a timescale for treatment. There will normally be time within the first session for the physiotherapist to begin treating your problem. Often you will also be required to complete a few home exercises before the next meeting.

If you know you have a complex problem or a long medical history then it is recomended you take the extended initial appointment time of 60mins.

What to bring ?

Please bring along any previous documentation regarding your condition, any scan results, blood test results and details of any current medication you may be taking. Please also bring the name and address of your GP and any consultant you may be under.

Treatment techniques

You may be offered various treatments to aid recovery for your problem. For example joint mobalisations and manipulations, strengthening and stretching exercises, muscle energy techniques, acupuncture, heat/cold packs, swiss ball rehab, pilates and soft tissue massage. We may also use electrotherapy such as TENS, Interferential, Combination Therapy and Ultrasound.

Treatment options will be discussed with you first so that you can make an informed decision on what treatment you prefer and understand the intended outcome of the treatment.

The treatment effect

It is often normal to be a little more sore post treatment. Normally this will only last for a day or so before subsiding. This is entirely normal and although we don`t want to put you in too much discomfort it is an important aspect to the treatment process. After your symptoms have subsided you may see a general reduction/improvement in your symptoms. This is a great sign that the treatment is working. Sometimes you will have no change in your symptoms after your first session. If this is the case dont worry. Whether you have seen an improvement or not it is important to inform your physiotherapist on your next visit. He/she will use the information you provide to either modify the treatment e.g longer, increase force, more repetitions or change the orgional treatment plan in favour of an alterantive option.

At onephysio our primary goal is to get you better. We regularly review your progress and if you fail to respond to any of our treatment after four sessions we will discuss other options available. To monitor the effectiveness of the treatment the physiotherapsist will use an outcome measure (a tool to measure success/failure of the treatment). This information can be passed onto your GP or other healthcare provider if required.

Follow Up acpuncture

Follow up appointments are normally 30 mins and in this time your physiotherapist will review any progress made, re-assess your problem and either continue with the treatment plan or offer you alternative treatment options. We may advise your follow-up appointment to be made weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly. Time between follow-up appointments will be determined by your condition and response to treatment.

For such conditons as ACL rehabiliation or Post Tendon repair we know that a number of treatments may be required over many weeks. Please contact us for discounts on ten or more sessions.
